Course Description

Students drawing a figure in class

Enrollment is open to students in grades 9-12.

Set a firm foundation for your future art practice with this dynamic figure drawing intensive. Working from live clothed models as well as classical drawings and photo resources, you'll develop strong observational abilities while investigating proportion, anatomy, gesture, and the effects of light and shadow on three-dimensional form. Through structured lessons, engaging discussions, and extensive studio time, you'll explore various drawing media including charcoal and graphite, learning to translate what you see into dynamic, realistic drawings. Discover how artists throughout history have approached the human figure, connecting your own work to a rich artistic tradition. No previous experience required—this class welcomes both beginners building foundational skills and more experienced artists refining their technique. Whether you're planning to pursue fine art, animation, illustration, character design, costume design, or concept art, this intensive provides essential preparation and results in portfolio-quality work that showcases your technical proficiency and expressive range.
