Course Description

student designing fashion

Enrollment is open to students in grades 9-12.

Learn to design and illustrate garments for fashion, costume, and entertainment in this dynamic one-week intensive. You'll master the foundational skills of fashion illustration—from drafting the fashion figure to rendering fabric textures, draping, and garment construction details. Working from live costumed models and historical references, you'll explore how clothing interacts with the human form, studying anatomy, proportion, and the movement of various fabrics. Discover the work of famous fashion illustrators and learn how drawing styles have reflected cultural attitudes throughout the decades, then develop your own unique visual approach using markers, colored pencils, and digital tools.

Whether you're interested in haute couture, historic costume for theater and film, or character design for video games, you'll learn concept development methods applicable across the entertainment and fashion industries. Classes include demonstrations, fashion terminology, garment construction basics, and styling for different markets. No sewing is involved—the focus is entirely on visual design and illustration. This course is ideal for students building college portfolios, aspiring costume and fashion designers, illustrators, and anyone seeking foundational skills for further study or careers in the fashion and entertainment industries.
