Course Description

Enrollment is open to students in grades 9-12. 

Becoming a designer can lead to a prosperous career with a good salary, interesting work, and high potential for growth. In this class, each of the first four days will focus on a different creative career which appeal to creative people. Each of these fields requires creativity, a progressive design process, and a problem-solving spirit; however, the tools, techniques, and creative output differThrough a week-long project you will explore how a product designer, interaction designer, illustrator, and graphic designer might use their creative skills to solve a problem or communicate a message to an audience. This is a great course if you want to be a designer or if you are just curious about art, design, and creative careers. The final day of this workshop will include an exhibition opportunity to show your work to family and friends.  

 

Learner Outcomes

  • Students will learn about the goals, skills, work, and career prospects for different design fields. 

  • Students will apply the principles of each discipline through daily projects that showcases the kind of work done in each of the fields. 

  • Students will be able to articulate the key differences and similarities between the four design fields explored. 

  • Students will practice explaining their design project work to their peers and giving each other constructive feedback. 

  • Students will have the opportunity to show their work in a final exhibition.
