Course Description

student drawing on tablet

Enrollment is open to students in grades 9-12.

Bring your wildest creature ideas to life in this hands-on one-week intensive! Learn the secrets professional artists use to design memorable monsters and creatures for blockbuster films, hit video games, and popular animations. You'll discover how to study real animals—from the way a wolf's muscles flex to how a bird's wings fold—then remix that knowledge to invent entirely new creatures that feel believable and exciting. You'll design beasts and creatures, considering them from all angles and poses, to show how they move and react, combining real-world inspiration with pure imagination. Explore how to choose the right features to make your creature scary, adorable, threatening, or majestic—whatever emotion you want your audience to feel. By the end of the week, you'll have original creature designs ready for your portfolio and the skills to keep creating. Ideal for anyone dreaming of a career in concept art, illustration, or animation.
