Course Description

Enrollment is open to students in grades 9-12. 

Discover how designers combine text, images, and color to create visual messages that grab attention and communicate ideas. In this hands-on one-week intensive, you'll learn the fundamental principles of graphic design while gaining practical skills used by professional designers in the real world. Learn how to organize your ideas, develop creative concepts, and solve visual problems using both traditional thinking and modern digital tools.  

You'll tackle design challenges that push you to experiment with different styles and approaches, discovering what gives great design its structure and meaning, you'll complete projects that add depth and variety to your portfolio while developing an eye for design that works. Taught by a professional from the design industry, this course welcomes everyone from beginners to students with prior art or design experience. By the end of the week, you'll have both the technical skills and creative confidence to continue exploring graphic design. 

 

Learner Outcomes

  • Students will develop and organize creative concepts, transforming ideas into designs that communicate clearly and creatively 

  • Students will apply design fundamentals including composition, typography, and color theory to create visually compelling and effective messages across digital platforms 

  • Students will practice speaking about their work, their process, and their artistic intent to their peers and giving each other constructive feedback. 

  • Students will have the opportunity to show their work in a final exhibition.
